Tips to create eco friendly boho wedding styling
Looking back over some of my favourite shoots it inspired me to do a little collection of our favourite bohemian wedding style ideas, talk a little about how to achieve them and how they can be eco friendly.
Embracing the bohemian style is a great way to create an eco friendly wedding day, it’s the new vintage look and full of upcycling, local flowers and hired decor.
Outdoor bohemian wedding styling
Foraged greenery and a tipi
Foraging for greenery is a beautiful way to embrace the location of your venue, a fun thing to do as wedding prep and free! If you aren’t very good at styling then rope in a creative friend or hire someone like Flowermug who created this stunning boho wedding tipi. Tall canes or branches create the structure and then have fun placing the greenery however you like. You may need some extra canes or wire depending on your design. Thread flowers through afterwards for a pop of colour. Or using some naturally dyed silk ribbons too would be beautiful.
You can use your foraged greenery everywhere! We love this help yourself wedding bar, casual and chic for an intimate wedding. I have been to a few open bar bring your own booze type dos and you would be surprised people don’t drink as much as they think they will! There was always lots to take home!
Boho vintage rug aisle
We are still loving the rug aisle and still seeing lots of it on Pinterest and styled shoots, I don’t think it’s on its way out just yet! It’s a great way to bring the inside out, no wasted decor as rugs are for hire. To achieve this look it is probably best to hire them rather than borrow rugs from friends and family - they might not appreciate the soil!
Indoor venue bohemain wedding styling
Rugs are for inside too! Use one as your ‘altar’ with a beautiful backdrop. I think my mum is still in shock that the wicker 1970’s thrones are so on trend for the boho wedding, she had them at her wedding breakfast in the 70’s and hated them! I personally think they are pretty ace, I love a wicker chair and despite looking fragile they last for ages - very eco friendly! Buy them to style your day if you have a house big enough to home them afterwards or many stylists have them to hire now.
Even though we love boho styling in a natural setting it is perfect for that urban industrial wedding venue or blank canvas. The size of the boho decor fills the space beautifully and it’s boldness gives warmth to an industrial space. This stunning macrame backdrop was created for our urban shoot in Manchester by Little White Attic.
You could achieve the macrame look by teaching yourself! Although unless you have a few years to plan your wedding it’s probably best to hire some from an expert!
Boho wedding floristry
Boho wedding floristry is bold and relaxed. The bouquets have structure of course but in a way that makes it look more natural like you just scooped the blooms up from the garden. We love how greenery is a common feature in boho wedding flowers as it an eco friendly addition, so easily sourced locally and help to keep emissions and the cost down.
During our delve into Pinterest for this post I got a bit lost in the beautiful posts on June Bug Weddings and loved this bouquet featuring succulents.
One of our featured suppliers is Artemisia design and she has a boho vibe with her arrangements but what we love is her style feels romantic too, not too dark or moody. We love the shapes she creates.
If you are tight on budget the boho theme is super flexible! You can budget bust with a massive bouquet and floral arch or reduce costs with a collection of glass wear featuring one or two stems.
I hope you enjoyed this little round up! My baby has just woken from a long nap whilst I wrote so I’m signing off. Enjoy your wedding planning!
